Question:

Tornado season in DR?

I'm considering taking a vacation in Punta Cana around the end of October or early November as a graduation gift.

I know tornado season is from June to the end of November. Could this trip be considered risky? Should I wait and travel for, let's say, Christmas?

  1. Just remember this rhyme.

    June.... too soon

    July....  Stand by

    August.. All Most

    September.... REMEMBER

    October... almost over

November.......  (it's a toss up some years)

  2. i think Punta Cana in the dominican republic in the june to november is a bad idea because but on Christmas holiday is a great idea because i went there and it a nice day everyday and some hotels would have a great christmas dinner for the guests at the hotel that you stay at but the hotel i stayed in was the Majestic Colonial Punta Cana and the sky was blue everyday expect when it rains.

  3. Hi Gwen,

Why not considering Puerto Plata instead of Punta Cana? During the last 115 years, Puerto Plata was hit only 3 x by a hurricane (average every 38 years) so your more secure and you have much more to see and to discover than in Punta Cana. Just ask your travel agent he/she will help you finding the best for your budget.

    Hopes this helped.

  4. Hurricane Season is the correct term and it is from June 1st until November 30 every year. Weather is unpredictable but hurricane preparedness has improved a lot over the years. Keep an eye on the weather reports. By any chance the DR gets hit by a hurricane you will need plan b or if you are already there follow evacuation procedures. Good luck.
