  1. According to Sterling College, the city alarms should sound...

  2. No, the National Weather Service is keeping tornadoes a secret from the town of Lyons, Ks. so they will not be sounding.  You may want to keep your ears peeled and listen for when the alarm sounds to warn all of the surrounding towns except your.  Buy a NOAA weather radio and stay tuned.  Also pick up a1 or 2 Police Scanners and tune to local storm-chasers.  You can learn or hear from them the path of the storm, what they see and where they are; makes it much more interesting.

  3. on tv on the bottom the thing will go beep beep and they will tell you there that there is a tornado warning

  4. They are, but sometimes they don't have enough warning to send out the alarms.  Some towns don't even have alarms to sound even if it is a high active tornado town. Since you are in tornado central, the best thing to look out for is sudden darkness and the severity of the storm you see. If you see high winds and hail, be on the watch for tornados. They can form any where. Also you can look at the sky and if you see rotation in clowds forming that is tornado potential. Sometimes it's hard to see at night in the dark.  Strong high winds and hail storm in your area, as I said are tornado potentials. These are signs to look for if you don't see the warnings on TV, if you don't have a TV on. It's always a good idea to turn on the TV to look for warnings when you have storms in your area.

The best place to hide out in these Tornados if warnings are given or think there is going to be one, is to go in your basement if you have one, away from windows.  Or go into your bath tub and hide there sitting curled with your head down covered with your hands.

  5. if it says tornado warning on TV then there is in fact a tornado warning, if you don't have a TV, look online, and no tornado sirens will not always go off, there is that chance that something goes wrong or very unlikely the power is cut by the tornado itself destroying the sirens (happened in the city in Kansas in 2007). i suggest using a good website like weather.com

but if you extreme pictures and information about live weather try

wunderground, best weather website i've encountered

  6. Okay, I've lived in Florida all my life and their have been countless tornado warnings here.

How many have I been hit with? Zero.

I'm not going to say that their haven't been tornados, just that we've probably gotten 20 tornado warnings where I live in the past three months, and I haven't had any near our house.

If you really feel like your going to get hit with one, then go into a basement or a closet and stock up on food, water and blankets.

  7. Yes, the alarms should sound for tornado warning, but probably won't sound for a tornado watch.

  8. yeah they are supposed to go off....weatherman in your area who are keeping track of severe weather in the area will notify the authorities there is a tornado spotted on the ground the the sirens will go off....its usually good to buy a weather radio that will alert you of such events....just in case ur power goes out....
