Okay I hear a lot of thunder and there are some big lightning bolts...its windy out too and we have a tornado watch and severe thunderstorm warning. we got one earlier in school today too it got really dark out then sunny and now its dark again. theres no rain or anything but according to one of my teachers they have been predicting a tornado to happen today for like a week. should I be worried?

also just incase the tornado watch turns into a warning...I have a walkout basement, its one big room with windows all along one wall. should i go behind the furnace?

  1. The safest place to be during a tornado is underground. Your basement should be fine enough.

  2. Be on the lookout, but don't worry. Worry can turn  into panick during the real thing.

Stay as far back from windows as possible. If there is a better place than the furnace, go for it. (do you have a bathroom in the basement?)

If the furnace is near a window, stay away.

Just be sure to be cautious around glass, and cover yourself well with something like a matress. Don't sit anywhere near a place where heavy objects may fall.

I'd really have to see the layout of your home to answer this helpfully, but this is about as much as I can do for you.

  3. in predicting weather condition , we have satellite feedback to tell us of the upcoming storm and in the technology today we can access information, like the internet , many sites offer free weather updates and  satellite feeback like this one http://www.myweatherlive.com, it serves us as hi-tech warning devices.

  4. FYI ...

A severe thunderstorm warning in your area should be treated JUST THE SAME as a tornado warning, because doppler radar cannot pick up EVERY TORNADO that is spawned by every severe thunderstorm.  That's why they say, "Go to a place of safety IMMEDIATELY."

So, yes, in a sense you should be ... wary.  Alert.  Cautious.  But you should also look to God to protect you.  I mean, if you freak out by EVERYTHING that can harm you then the rest of your life will be one big freakout, because there is possible dangers EVERYWHERE!  Examples:

Avian flu mutating, shark attacks, layoffs, drug restistant strains of tuberculosis, hepatitus, e-coli, salmanila, mad cow disease, ebola, anthrax, terrorism, product tampering, rapists and murderers, stalkers, burglers, cons, scams, and hoaxes, accidents, cancer, aneurisms, CP, MD, MS, Rhyes syndrom, PCOS, IBS, incontinence, liver and kidney diseases, heart disease, etc., etc., etc., just to name a few.

    Have a nice day!

  5. You should stay calm and go to a room with no windows, then cover yourself with a matress and wait. But stay in the basement.

  6. no tornado will occur if there is a severe thunderstorm warning
