I have heard of the possibillity of an F6. What do you think of this?? I also heard that you shouldnt worry about this because if it were to happen it would be like the hand of god!!

  2. There is no such thing as an F6. Dr. Fujita's most devastating tornado classification is an F5. If you think it's an F6, it's more likely an F5.

  3. I think it's a possibility.  Maybe it has happened in the past?  My theory would be, though, that if there were to be a tornado with characteristics over an EF5, no device or person would stand a chance at measuring the wind speeds and size.  LOL!  I don't know!  That's just my thoughts.

Also, I don't think anyone would stick around long enough to see how big it was, either.

And I know what you mean about the hand of god....

  4. The original Fujita Scale was used to measure atmospheric forces stronger then the Beaufort Scale, but less than the speed of sound.  It goes as high as F12.  However, F6 through F12 were never intended to rate tornadoes in the first place.  The F6 category started at 319 mph.

The fastest wind speed ever recorded on Earth was 301 mph on May 3, 1999 in a tornado over Bridge Creek, Oklahoma.  Additionally, due to the laws of physics, for a tornado to spin much faster than this, it has to tighten up, but at about 300 mph it will be so tight it will start to choke off the updraft airflow inside the funnel and this will cause it to weaken.

However, it was found that the Fujita scale wasn't as accurate as originally thought, and it was adjusted in February 2007.  This is now called the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

This scale only goes to EF5.  The EF5 category is open ended.  This means that anything over 200 miles per hour is EF5.  So, no matter how much faster the wind gets, it can't get past EF5.  So, the fastest tornado EVER (May 3, 1999) was still only an F5, and after February 2007, there can never be anything higher than F5.  So, F6 is an impossibility by definition.

As for the hand of God, well... God blesses people and gives life.  God doesn't go about destroying stuff with tornadoes and killing people.  That's not God's way of doing things.  God doesn't cause tornadoes, the atmosphere does.

  5. No such "animal" as an F6. An F5 obliterates Everything- HOW could there be anything Worse?!

  6. Why is 'the hand of God' such a despicable killer?  The 'hand of God' is evidently F1 thru FU.

  7. Yes it is possible that a tornado could be an F6 but only if the winds are above I believe 318+ which is highly unlikely.  However, it is possible that a few may have struck but the only real difference between the F5 and F6 is how the land has a swirling shape left behind from an F6 other than that the term F6 is unnecessary.

  8. a tornado being called "the hand of god" is pretty much irrelevant, since god isn't even real.

there is no such thing as an F6 tornado. the category of F5 starts at 200mph and goes on infinitely.
