Toro Rosso's driver Sebastien Buemi under no pressure: Formula 1 News
Toro Rosso’s driver Sebastien Buemi has claimed that he was not under pressure after his team hinted at introducing the test driver, Daniel Ricciardo, later in the ongoing Formula 1 season this year. The Swiss driver has scored four points in three races
until now.
Talking to the media, Buemi stated, “I'm calm, because regardless of results I've always done my maximum, and compared to my team-mate I've never done badly. Also last year, despite not being the easiest for me, in the end I scored more than him and overall
I did better than him in qualifying too.”
The Swiss further added, “Red Bull gives young drivers a chance to get into F1, so you always know that besides you there are other guys that try to show their abilities and aim to drive for Red Bull. If you give up, it's over for you.”
Buemi’s team-mate, Jaime Alguersuari, has been unable to score a single point in the season so far and the team is currently ranked at number seven in the constructor’s championship. The performance of both drivers has not pleased the team's principal, Franz
Tost, as he expected a lot more.
Toro Rosso showed a lot of promise during the winter testing and appeared stronger than teams like Force India and Williams Cosworth. However, the Red Bull's sponsored outfit has been unable to deliver when the season officially kicked off.
Although both Buemi and Alguersuari are under a threat of losing a seat in Formula 1, Tost claimed that the drivers have greater opportunities with top teams like Red Bull.
The reigning champions have extended their contract until 2014 with the youngest ever Formula 1 champion, Sebastian Vettel, but his team-mate Mark Webber may not be a part of the team after this season.
Webber’s contract with the team will finish at the end of the ongoing season and the team will make a decision on his future, after analysing his performance in 2011. However, Buemi didn’t make any predictions based on rumours. He was focused on his performance
this year and stated that better results could give him a chance to be a part of stronger teams.
