Toro Rosso: Preview quotes for Singapore Grand Prix
Toro Rosso, the Italian Team for Red Bull is competing for the fifth year in the Formula One Series. The team currently stands at ninth place in Constructors’ Championship with having bagged a total of ten points so far.
Both of its drivers, Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari have kept striving hard all through the season and now as they head for the next round, they seem positive and optimistic.
Buemi stands at sixteenth place in the Drivers’ Standings having a total of seven points under his belt whereas Alguersuari has been able to earn just three points and he stands at eighteenth place.
As Formula One caravan now moves for the season’s fifteenth round, both the team drivers have expressed their feelings regarding the fears and aspirations.
Buemi had a poor race in Singapore last year as he started with 13th place on the grid but wasn’t able to finish and in the end had to retire after facing some mechanical problems in his car. Now, as he proceeds for the venue this year, which
would mark his second race on the track, he seems more confident and trilled.
He seemed glad to state, “It is a unique event, running under the floodlights at night, which makes it interesting as the visibility, although good, is not the same as driving in daylight.” While talking about his fears, he stated that the place has always
been famous for sudden rain storms which scare him the most, although, the two grand prix hosted on this track so far haven’t witnessed such bad weather.
On further probing, Buemi told that driving at night had never been a problem for him rather he has always enjoyed it. However, he maintained that Marina Bay is a quite demanding track, firstly, because it is a street circuit and secondly, because some of
its parts are so bumpy that they require a strong car. The track can be compared to Monaco in its layout but the lap in Singapore seems much longer. Therefore, high temperatures and ever increasing humidity there makes this race a physically demanding one.
Buemi concluded, “Setting up the car is as tricky as any street track and on Friday, we will also have to evaluate some changes they have made to the surface and the kerbs at certain corners. I’m looking forward to have a good end of season in the last five
races.” Meanwhile, last year’s race was also not a great one for the other Toro Rosso driver, Alguersuari, as he had started from 16th place on the grid but just like his teammate, he was also unable to finish it.
This year, as the struggling team heads for the race, Alguersuari seems much hopeful for a better weekend. He said, “But it is very tough this year, when you consider that there are four teams usually finishing in the points. This means that unless one of
their cars has a problem, the first eight places are already accounted for.”
Finally, five more days are left while a lot of action and drama is expected at the Marina Bay Street Circuit of Singapore.
