Toro Rosso announce TR7’s participation in the first pre-season test – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso have announced that the team will be unveiling its 2012 edition of the car, TR7 in the first pre-season test at Jerez in February.
The 2011 season was not a particularly good one for Toro Rosso as they finished 8th in the constructors’ championship. The poor showing prompted the team to replace both its drivers, Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari with Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric
Vergne. The team has been working hard to come up with a car that can be competitive enough to match the pace of at least the midfield teams.
The FIA has introduced a new rule that has made it compulsory for all the cars to pass crash tests before they can be eligible to race. Toro Rosso announced on their website on Thursday that the TR7 has passed all the crash tests and is going to take part
in the first pre-season test.
“Who says crashing is always a bad thing? Having previously passed various static crash tests, today, our new car, the STR7, passed all remaining FIA crash tests,” the statement read. “So we now know the car is strong enough and as from 7 February in Jerez,
we can start work on making it quick and reliable.”
FIA has only allowed three pre-season tests and all the teams are eager to participate in all of three so that they can prepare better for the season. So far most teams have confirmed their participation. Mercedes are the only team that have announced that
they will not be appearing in the first pre-season test.
Other rule changes include barring of the off-throttle blown diffuser which was mastered by Red Bull. That is another reason for the teams to utilise the pre-season tests so that the new designs of the car can be fully tested prior to the 2012 season.
The pre-season test will give a glance to where all the teams cars stand in the race to stay at the sharp end of the grid. The season begins in March and it is shaping up to be an exciting one with a lot of teams in contention for world title.
