Toro Rosso confident after improvement in Korean GP – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso is happy with improvement as both of its drivers Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo finished in the points at the Korean Grand Prix this past Sunday.
For the last nine Grands Prix of the season, the team had failed to score any points finish though they have finally improved after finishing four times within the points table in the last five races.
During the Korean Grand Prix last weekend, Ricciardo started at the 21st position on the grid and continued upwards ultimately finishing at the ninth position. His teammate Vergne finished at eight.
“This matches our previous best performance of the season in Belgium, when we also finished eighth and ninth with Jean-Eric and Daniel in that order,” team Principal Franz Tost said. “We are definitely improving in this second half of the season and it is
the third time in the last four races that we have finished in the points. I would rate this as our strongest performance of the year.”
Tost commented that it was a very strong performance from the whole team. He pointed out that Toro Rosso was the only team to have taken over six cars on that particular afternoon. He matched the team’s performance to a previous one in Belgium of the same
season in which they unusually finished in the points table with the same order of drivers. He insisted that this was definitely the team’s best performance of the current season.
Vergne imitated the team Principal’s comments stating that this was his best race of the year too. He said that the car worked well despite the tyre problems that had been common on Sunday with all the drivers. He was happy about the way the track suited
them and he expects similar conditions in India.
Ricciardo said that if he had not suffered a problem with his car at the end of the race, he might not have come one position lower than teammate Vergne. The driver had encountered a front right brake failure. He also agreed that this was their best weekend
this year.
The whole team is very confident about racing in the Indian Grand Prix.
“Now we can look forward to continuing this positive trend in India in a fortnight,” Tost said.
