Toro Rosso director Giorgio Ascanelli says Sebastian Vettel in the same league as of Ayrton Senna
Toro Rosso director Giorgio Ascanelli has said the reigning Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel is in the same league as the legendary three-time world champion Ayrton Senna was in.
Ayrton was a Brazilian driver who drove for teams like Lotus, McLaren and Williams and secured three Formula 1 titles. However, he went through a fatal accident at the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994 which is considered as one of the most tragic incidents
in the history of motorsports.
Senna had a very prominent character and is still known as one of the most skilled drivers the sport ever produced. The Brazilian managed 41 wins from just 162 races.
Ascanelli used to work with Vettel during his time with Toro Rosso during the 2007 and 2008 Formula 1 seasons.
Ascanelli has also worked with Ayrton Senna during his time with McLaren and with Michael Schumacher in Ferrari. However, Giorgio believes that he is witnessing perfection for the second time in his career.
“I am very lucky. Twice in my life I have experienced perfection; once with Senna, again with Vettel. In one respect Michael was different because he had to work harder for his success than did Senna and Vettel. With those two it was something else,” said
Giorgio.
Former Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger has also voiced similar sentiments. He said that the reigning world champion is the most “complete” driver on the 2011 Formula 1 grid.
“Before the season began I thought Alonso was the best driver, but maybe now it's Sebastian,” Berger said.
Sebastian Vettel won the first two races of the 2011 Formula 1 season in Australia and Malaysia but lost to Lewis Hamilton of McLaren at the third grand prix of the campaign in China. Let’s see if he continues his dream run in the sport at the fourth grand
prix of the season in Turkey which is scheduled to take place in three weeks time.
