Toro Rosso driver Daniel Ricciardo believes he needs to be aggressive for 2012 – Formula 1 news
Daniel Ricciardo says that he wants to be more aggressive in the upcoming 2012 season.
Ricciardo drove for Hispania Racing Team in the recently concluded 2011 season. Ricciardo was not able to score any points thanks to a weak HRT car. After a forgetful 2011, Ricciardo has got a chance to race for Toro Rosso as the Red Bull sister team decided
to let go of Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari.
Ricciardo will be partnering Jean-Eric Vergne a promising young driver coming through the Red Bull young driver programme. Vergne and Ricciardo were teammates in the Renault 3.5 series and the Australian believes that teaming up with Vergne will give him
that extra bit of edge required to do better.
“He's got potential and he's quick,” Ricciardo said. “We drive quite similar but he has probably what I don't have in the aggressive side. So maybe I can learn from him, at least in the junior category that has been his style.”
“I know I've got it but it's probably not consistent enough and at Formula One now it has to be as good as it can be. I think my actual starts are okay, the initial reaction off the line is fine,” he further added.
He also said that although he had remained confident of getting a race seat for the 2012 season, the waiting period for the official announcement was hard to handle. He also believes that the aggression that he needs on the grid will come through experience.
As he gets more and more races he will be able to build up a better learning curve to use the conditions to his advantage.
The Australian also believes that although the season was not something to write about, but given the conditions he had some positives and the management at Red Bull saw those positives to offer him the race seat.
It remains to be seen how well Ricciardo performs in the season, but it is a certainty that he will need to perform really well during the season as a lot of drivers will be available for teams for the 2013 season as quite a few drivers end their contracts
after 2012 with their respective teams.
