Toro Rosso driver Daniel Ricciardo says 2013 car is very different from the old one – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso driver Daniel Ricciardo has said that their 2013 car, the STR8, is very different as compared to the old one.
Almost all the teams are just aiming to develop their 2012 cars during the winter testing as there will be no radical changes in the rules and regulations by FIA in the next season.
However, Toro Rosso have completely changed the design of their car for the next season after struggling with it throughout this year.
Ricciardo expressed full confidence that the next year’s car will be better as compared to STR7. In addition, he said that they are positively looking forward to attain competitive results in the coming year.
“I can tell you I've already seen it [the STR8] and, when looking at it closely, it's very different from the old one,” he told Autosprint.
“I think it will be better than the one I've raced this year,” he continued. “In any case, it won't be one of those cars that looks like a perfect copy - barely evolved - of the one that raced the previous year.”
It will be important to mention that the Australian driver is aiming to deliver his best in the next season so as to be able to make his way into Red Bull Racing in the future.
“I know that my targets in 2013 will have to be more ambitious,” he said.
Besides, he said that he is targeting to secure a podium finish in the next season in order to prove his potential as a good racing driver.
“I won't hide and I say that I must and can obtain a podium,” he added.
The Aussie came 18th in this year’s drivers’ standings with 10 points. Additionally, he stood ahead of Vitaly Petrov of Caterham and behind his teammate, Jean-Eric Vergne who managed to score 16 points.
The rivalry amongst the contenders will be very intense in the coming year. It will be very exciting to see how the 23-year-old performs in the next year and whether he will be able to attain promising results for his team or not.
