Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari confident of a strong finish to the season – Formula 1 news
Jamie Alguersuari says he is confident that he can help his team Toro Rosso finish ahead of Sauber in the ongoing 2011 Formula 1 season.
Alguersuari was able to score points at Singapore and the Indian Grands Prix. He finished 8th at the Indian GP and gave a strong finish to the Faenza-based squad.
Alguersuari seemed delighted with his performance, which has helped Toro Rosso to be in contention to move past Sauber in the constructors’ championship with 2 races remaining in the season. Sauber are placed 7th in the standings.
The Spaniard spoke about his performance and said, “I was also ahead of the Saubers and I think this result reflects where we should be in the order. It is encouraging that we could outperform the Renaults. Once again the team did a great job in preparation
work, in the sessions and in the pit-stops looks to be we are on the right road.”
“I am very happy to have scored four points which puts Toro Rosso on the same total as Sauber. I am looking forward to the next two races; I think if we do a good job we can end the year ahead of them,” he further added.
His teammate Sebastien Buemi was having a good run but unfortunately had to retire, because of a technical failure in his car.
Alguersuari showed his disappointment with what transpired during the race, and said that if he had been in the race, he could have easily secured some points for the team.
However, he still took some positives out of the race and said that their pace has been good throughout the weekend. He wants his team to keep on working hard in the right direction and better their overall performance by every race. The biggest priority
though at the moment is the standing in the constructors’ championship.
There are only two more races left for the season, Abu Dhabi and Brazil. It would be interesting to see how Toro Rosso and Sauber tackle each other in the remainder of the season.
