Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari looking to save tyres in German GP qualifiers – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari has stated that he will be better off saving his tyres in the German Grand Prix qualifiers of the 2011 Formula 1 season and having a go in the race on Sunday so that he can score some points.
Jaime added that he tried to go fast in qualifiers and did manage to make his way in Q2 and sometimes Q3 but then his race was ruined because he would have used an extra set of tyres by then. The Spaniard stated that he would prefer not to qualify higher
in Germany and save his tyres for the race day.
The Spaniard stated, “I wouldn't mind not going into Q2 and qualifying eighteenth at the Nurburgring. That way I keep a set of tyres. I am sure about it because at first I did the opposite and it was very bad. I'd prefer not to qualify, have a good race
car and finish in the points.”
Talking about the 2011 championship, Jaime stated that Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing has already won the season by now and is enjoying his ride at the moment.
“For me, the championship is decided already. This year the Red Bulls don't break down and, compared to us, are in a different galaxy,” commented Jaime.
The Spaniard put on a good show in the Valencia Grand Prix where he was able to finish among points in front of his home crowd after he started the race from the 18th place. Then in the Silverstone Grand Prix, once more Jaime saved his tyres in
the qualifiers and only managed an 18th place on the grid but went on to finish 10th in the race.
The Spaniard is now confident that he will be able to pull off a similar kind of performance in the upcoming German Grand Prix which will take place on July 24, 2011. Let’s see how well manages to do that in the legendary Nurburgring circuit this weekend.
