Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari upbeat despite uncertainty over 2012 seat – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari is upbeat about his performance in the ongoing 2011 season despite a cloud casting uncertainty over his future in the sport.
Alguersuari is at a very critical stage of his career, as his team Toro Rosso at the constructors’ championship, aim to take over Sauber for the seventh place. Alguersuari is doing all he can to benefit his team, and even though his future in the team is
uncertain, he feels that it is not deterring him to stray off the goals of the team.
“I know it's going to get harder and harder up to the finale in Sao Paulo but I can live with the pressure, and my morale is intact,” he told EFE news agency.
Alguersuari plans to do the best he can in the next five races to get Toro Rosso on track for the rest of the season. It can be a real pain to not know what the next season holds for a driver, but Alguersuari is adamant that he has the nerves to cope with
the pressure and perform well for his team.
Toro Rosso on the other hand are yet to confirm their driver plans for the next season, although Red Bull young drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne are both on the waiting list to join in if an opportunity strikes, which means all the more pressure
for Alguersuari and his teammate, Sebastien Buemi.
Talking about the pressure on both of them, Alguersuari said, “We have not talked about the future or next year's contract, it is very important that the whole team is focused on the rest of this year.”
While there is definitely immense pressure on Alguersuari, adding to his worries would be the much talked about move of Ricciardo from Hispania Racing Team to Toro Rosso in 2012, although Ricciardo, himself has denied this and has termed it as a mere rumour
and nothing else.
It has been a relatively good season for the 21-year-old as he has bagged 16 points from 14 races in the season so far.
Let’s see how he performs in the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix set to be held from October 7-9, 2011 at the legendary Suzuka circuit.
