Toro Rosso driver Jean-Eric Vergne feels confident for season opener debut – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso driver Jean-Eric Vergne feels quite confident for his debut in the season opener at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia on March 18, 2012.
Vergne said that he is prepared for his first ever F1 Grand Prix after the completion of his pre-season testing schedule. His teammate, Daniel Ricciardo will take the car from the third day after Vergne finished his second day of the final test at Barcelona.
Vergne set the second fastest lap time of the day two with his best lap time of 1 minute and 23.126 seconds. However, he could only be able to complete 31 laps due to a problem in the engine just before the lunch during the test and was confined to the garage
for the pit stop exercise during the afternoon session of the second day of testing.
Furthermore, he said that the team needed to be prepared in all the aspects of the game in order to make significant preparations for the first race in the forthcoming season.
“I think the main goals will be not to do any mistakes and to finish the race. It is pretty clear. It's difficult to target tenth, ninth, eighth place because we don't really know how the others are. The only thing which is a possible target is not to do
any mistakes from my side and the team's side as well and to finish the race. If we do this I'm pretty sure looking at the other years that we're going to score some points,” said Vergne.
Furthermore, Vergne said that he felt incredibly well about his test run on the second day of the last test and did not realise that the next time he would be driving the car in his first Grand Prix. However, he stated that he was ready for his first race
and was willing to make it a good one too.
Moreover, he said that more test runs would definitely help in better preparations for the forthcoming season but it could not be said for sure. Nevertheless, he said that he along with his team was prepared for his debut in the season opener at Melbourne,
Australia.
