Toro Rosso driver Jean-Eric Vergne says he is more confident after Barcelona test – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso driver Jean-Eric Vergne says that he is much more confident in the new Toro Rosso STR7 after the second Formula 1 pre-season test at Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona than the first test at the Jerez circuit, Spain.
After completing 170 laps during the two days of testing and performing different procedures like pits shops, Vergne felt more comfortable with the car than the last test.
Moreover, the Frenchman believed that the team would perform well in the upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season.
“When you have a good car, and a good balance, you can tell - and it looks quite good to me,” said Vergne.
“I am much more confident in the car now than I was by the end of the Jerez test,” Vergne said. “We worked on many different aspects of the job and for example, today I had a much better understanding of the pit stops than I did after trying them yesterday
for the first time. We did some good work today, acquiring plenty of data and I expect this will help us to improve still further next week.”
However, Vergne said that he still had to learn a lot in Formula 1. Nevertheless, he said that the work carried on in this test would surely help in achieving the points in the upcoming season on regular basis and would improve the overall skills and abilities
as a driver.
Toro Rosso’s chief engineer, Laurent Mekies had said that the test proved out to be quite productive for the team despite the team was not able to cover more than 92 laps in one single day.
Mekies said that the team covered the work on large number of test items and completed the programme which could only be done in the winter testing session if you had a lot of tyres.
Moreover, he said that making the required changes in the car after testing was time consuming issue which resulted in covering less laps than planned.
Nevertheless, the team had to make those changes after measuring and evaluating the performance of the car to improve the car and to make the significant preparations for the forthcoming season.
