Toro Rosso driver Jean-Eric Vergne says they need to keep on making progress – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso driver Jean-Eric Vergne says they need to keep on making progress so as to improve the pace of their car in order to achieve good results in the 2012 Formula 1 season ahead.
Vergne has only been able to score 4 points in the season so far which he attained with his 8th place finish in the second race held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia after taking a start from 18th grid position.
At present, he is standing at 17th place in the drivers’ championship. Moreover, he is 13 points behind Nico Hulkenberg of Force India and is just 2 points ahead of his teammate, Daniel Ricciardo.
Meanwhile, the Italian team is presently at 9th position in the constructors’ championship with 6 points. Furthermore, they are ahead of Caterham and are behind Force India.
In addition, Vergne said that they have been trying their best to make the essential advancements to enhance the performance of their car to come up stronger in the approaching races.
“Inevitably, reaching the middle of the season means you get asked lots of questions about progress and pressure and how the team is shaping up,” Vergne said. “In terms of progress, I think I've done well. In fact, we've all done well as a team. We don't
have the car we'd like yet but that doesn't mean we haven't all worked hard to get where we want to be. I've learned a lot since the start of the season and the best is definitely still to come. The moment you stop learning, that's the moment you should stop
doing what you're doing.”
He also said that they have made some crucial progress in the season so far and have been pushing hard to strike back in the upcoming season.
The current season has been quite unpredictable as there have been only two drivers, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing, who have scored two race wins and the remaining victories have been claimed by different drivers.
Over and above, it will be very interesting to see how all the contenders perform in the German GP which is to be held at Hockenheimring on July 22.
