Toro Rosso fined 10,000 Euros by Chinese GP stewards for Jaime’s car tyre loss – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso team were fined 10000 Euros by the Chinese Grand Prix race stewards after their driver, Jaime Alguersuari lost a tyre from his car while exiting the pits in the ninth lap of the race.
Toro Rosso’s chief engineer Laurent Mekies has stated that the exact cause of the loose wheel is being investigated.
Jaime started the race in seventh grid position and was slow from the start of the race because his tyres were giving him gripping problems. Jaime was called in early to take him on the three pit-stop strategy. After he exited the pits, his rear right tyre
got loose and was detached from the car. Jaime’s loose wheel did not become harmful for other drivers or spectators because the incident occurred in the corner when the speed of the car was slow.
Talking about the incident, Mekies stated, “We brought Jaime in fairly early to have him running a three stop strategy. But we had to retire the car soon after the pit stop as we lost a wheel. At the moment, we are examining the exact cause of this incident.”
The Chinese Grand Prix was altogether a good race in terms of reliability as 23 out of 24 cars finished the race including the Hispania Racing Team cars. Jaime is already on a short notice by the team as the team has already stated that test driver, Daniel
Ricciardo can be called in the car if any of the two drivers fails to show results.
The Chinese Grand Prix was not a good one for the Toro Rosso team because both drivers were not able to score points. Both Toro Rosso cars qualified the race in top ten positions and started the race in hopes of a great finish. Buemi finished 14th
in his Ferrari powered car behind Williams of Rubens Barrichello.
Toro Rosso currently sit seventh in the constructors’ championship race with only 4 points. The next race in Turkey is about three weeks away and Toro Rosso will have plenty of time to improve the car or bring in some changes in the team.
