Toro Rosso reveals its 2012 line up of Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso has announced the replacements of Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi with Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne for the 2012 season.
Alguersuari was a surprise exclusion of the two drivers replaced as he had been really impressive during the 2011 season. He scored 26 points with a best finish of 7th place. Toro Rosso team Principal Franz Tost though defended the team’s decision to replace
both drivers by saying that it had always been the purpose of Toro Rosso to bring in young talented drivers. Toro Rosso was established for this very reason, to develop and harness young drivers and to do that the driver line up continuously.
He did praise Buemi and Alguersuari and thanked them for the hard work they put in over the span of three seasons. He said that both the drivers displayed some excellent performances which really helped the team develop and move forward towards improvement.
He also wished both the drivers luck and all the best for their future endeavours.
While talking about the new drivers Tost said, “I am pleased that we have been able to reach an early decision on our drivers for next year, because it means we can all give our full attention to 2012, without any distractions. Over the past year, both Daniel
and Jean-Eric have proved their worth and I expect them to make a significant contribution to the team's performance next year.”
Ricciardo drove for HRT for the latter part of the 2011 season, which gave him good race experience. He also expressed his delight at the news and said, “This is a really big deal for me and something I have wanted ever since I was driving for Toro Rosso
on Friday mornings at the races in the first part of last season.”
It would be interesting to see how the young drivers perform for Toro Ross in the 2012 season. Both drivers have shown promise in the little chance they got to show their potential but as fierce competition is speculated for the 2012 season the young drivers
are going to need a lot more experience to compete.
