Toro Rosso stand as struggling contender in 2012 Formula 1 season
Toro Rosso have not been able to deliver any inspiring performance in the 2012 Formula 1 season so far and are surely standing as a struggling contender in the title fight.
At present, they are at 9th place in the constructors’ championship with only 6 points in pocket. Although they are ahead of Caterham who have not been able to score even a single point until now, however, they are far behind their main rival,
Force India who have scored 46 points in the first eleven races and have been deemed as one of the strongest midfield contender.
Meanwhile, their driver, Jean-Eric Vergne is at 17th place in the drivers’ rankings with 4 points. Moreover, he is behind Nico Hulkenberg of Force India and is just two points ahead of his teammate, Daniel Ricciardo.
Furthermore, the French driver could not make his way into the third qualifying session of the season opener and later came 11th in the race and remained unable to score any points. Nonetheless, he came back reasonably well in the second race
and secured 8th place finish after taking a start from 18th grid position.
However, he remained unable to score point any points in the races afterwards and could not make his way into final session of the qualifying. Additionally, he was retired in the European GP.
On the other hand, Ricciardo secured 9th place finish in the Australian GP after setting off from 10th grid slot. Later on, he struggled during all the ten races and could not pocket any point.
Nonetheless, it will be important to mention that he qualified for 6th grid slot in the Bahrain GP which is his best qualifying performance in the first half of the season.
In addition, after the Hungarian GP, the Australian driver said that he had a good start but faced difficulties later and could not match the pace of his rivals. Besides, he said that even though they improved their car during the race but failed to manage
the tyres well which eventually resulted in an uncompetitive outcome. Nevertheless, he said that he is earnestly hoping to come up stronger in the Belgian GP after the summer break.
“We managed to improve the car as the race went on, but for the last stint on the Mediums, it took a while for the tyres to work and maybe my set-up was too conservative for the start of the stint. Now it's the break and I hope we can come back stronger
in Spa,” the Aussie said.
Moreover, the team principal of Toro Rosso, Franz Tost said that they are trying their best to keep on making the essential progress so as to show up stronger in the remaining nine races so as to secure a good position in the midfield.
“There are just a few days of work available to us now, either side of the compulsory break to find some improvements to try and turn our season around in the remaining nine rounds of this very close championship,” Tost said.
The competition is very tough in the current season and it has been very hard to make any kind of predictions for the races ahead. Over and above, it will be extremely exciting to see how all the contenders perform in the approaching races after the ongoing
mid-season break.
