Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost admires the performance of his drivers – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost has admired the performance of his drivers, Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne in the season so far.
Tost said that both their drivers have great potential and he is very much pleased with their performance in the season until now.
“What I am expecting is that a highly-skilled driver shows at least one sparkle,” Tost said. “Daniel did that for me in Bahrain as it was a really fantastic performance and Jean-Eric did it in Monaco. To be in P7 as a first timer in a Formula One car at
Monaco is quite remarkable!”
Vergne is currently at 17th place in the drivers’ championship with 4 points. Furthermore, he is just 2 points ahead of his teammate, Ricciardo and 13 points behind Nico Hulkenberg of Force India.
Besides, he delivered his best performance of the season in the Malaysian Grand Prix held at Sepang International Circuit in Sakhir in which he secured 8th place finish after setting off from 18th grid position.
Meanwhile, Ricciardo is at 18th position in the drivers’ rankings with 2 points and is ahead of Caterham pair of drivers, Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov.
The Australian driver secured 9th place finish in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after taking a start from 10th grid slot. However, he has not been able to score even a single point after the first race
of the season.
Nevertheless, Tost said that he has complete faith in his drivers and he is hopeful that they will attain better results in the forthcoming races. He also said that they are trying their best to make substantial preparations to improve their car’s pace for
the approaching season.
He added, “Both now have a bit more experience, they know the team better, the car better and the weekend procedure, so now I think it is up to us, the team, to provide them with a good car and make a step forward with new upgrades”.
At present, Toro Rosso are standing at 9th place in the constructors’ championship with 6 points and are 38 points behind Force India. Above and beyond, they are aiming to come up stronger in the season ahead.
