Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari admits he is confident ahead of the 2011 Formula 1 season
Toro Rosso’s Formula 1 driver Jaime Alguersuari, has admitted that he is confident ahead of the up-coming 2011 Formula 1 season, as he performed well over the first three pre-season tests. He is currently looking forward to a successful season with the team.
Toro Rosso brought Alguersuari to main stream racing in 2009. At the start he took over the role of third driver for Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso, but after his good performance, the team selected him as the main driver of the Toro Rosso team.
He was the seventh youngest Formula One driver who started racing in a Grand Prix at the age of 19. At the end of the 2009 season, the team confirmed Alguersuari and Sébastien Buemi for the 2010 season.
Alguersuari did a good job last season and as a result the team announced that he will be retained with Buemi for the 2011 season.
During his performance in the official Formula 1 tests, he drove his new STR6 car well. Several competitors, including McLaren's Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso have said that the team was showing a very strong performance
due to an innovative ‘double floor’ feature that has been installed in the new Toro Rosso. They added that, this feature could bring a surprise for the team in the up-coming season.
Other than the World Champions, Alguersuari also said that, "I think we will be competitive in the 2011 season."
The new STR6 car experienced massive problems during testing, but Alguersuari tried his best to set the pace of the car. He was quick to understand the features and setup of the new Toro Rosso car, as he has done considerable testing on the new Pirelli tyres
and has learned their effects on the setup.
At the end of the last Barcelona tests, Alguersuari admitted that the 2011 regulations including the banned double diffusers and new Pirelli compounds into the car, have favoured the team over the test runs. However, he expected more improvements in the
performance of his car in upcoming season.
The Spanish driver is confident ahead of the upcoming season, as he went on to say, "We will fight for points at every race."
Alguersuari also cleared up one statement about the other Spanish driver, Fernando Alonso, as he mentioned that he was not close to Ferrari’s Alonso and said, “We're not friends, we are both Spanish but that's it, we have no relationship."
It will be interesting to see how Alguersuari is able to perform with Torro Rosso this year, as the 2011 Formula 1 season will be filled with some very strong contenders.
