Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari backs his teammate Sebastian Buemi
After a number of reports, there were rumours that Sebastian Buemi might not be able to keep his race drive with Toro Rosso since the team was interested in Daniel Ricciardo. However, Sebastian’s teammate Jaime Alguersuari who has been performing pretty
well as compared to the rest of the back running drivers, backed his teammate and stated that Buemi is more deserving than Ricciardo.
The team was quite impressed with the young Ricciardo at the recent test session that took place in Abu Dhabi. The young driver lapped the Red Bull RB6 even faster than the world champion Sebastian Vettel’s fastest lap at the Yas Marina Circuit. He is also
leading the junior Red Bull drivers and since Toro Rosso is also backed by Red Bull, it seems that the team is most likely to sign him for 2011.
However, Jaime believes that Buemi is an extremely talented driver and with due time, he will rise and prove his worth to the team.
“I don't know what will happen. What I can say is that if my team-mate [Buemi] had driven a Red Bull, he would do better than Ricciardo. Without a doubt,” said Jaime.
Toro Rosso’s team principal Franz Tost praised Jaime Alguersuari in a recent interview and indicated that Alguersuari will drive for the team as a full time race driver in 2011.
“Jaime has this year learned to set up and develop and drive the car. Now I'm looking forward to next season, when we will have a much more mature driver who is constantly improving,” he told the Media.
Toro Rosso was the only back running team that was able to score some points and the team finished in 9th place in the drivers’ standings with Jaime Alguersuari in 19th place while Sebastian Buemi finished ahead of him in 16th
place.
Alguersuari stated that he is happy to keep his seat with the team but hopes to team up alongside Sebastian Buemi once again in 2011.
“I'm very proud of what he said because I think I have improved this year and I intend to keep going that way,” said Jaime.
