Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari blames Sebastian Buemi for Nick Heidfeld’s crash – Formula 1
Toro Rosso’s drivers, Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi, are denying a crash with the Renault’s driver Nick Heidfeld in the Australian Grand prix. Alguersuari, who admitted a crash with Mercedes’ Michael Schumacher, said that he was not responsible for
Heidfeld crash. On the other hand, Heidfeld is not sure which one of the Toro Rosso hit him after which his car lost 1.5 seconds each lap.
One of the Toro Rosso cars hit Heidfeld’s car from behind in the first lap, after which Heidfeld performance was compromised and he lost 1.5 seconds on each lap. Heidfeld said that he saw one of the Toro Rosso cars hit Heidfeld but is still not sure who
it was. Talking about the damage, Eric Boullier told the media that the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) and balance of the Heidfeld’s car was damaged. Heidfeld finished the race in 12th spot, while his team-mate, Vitaly Petrov, was busy up
on the grid in third position.
No camera on the track recorded the incident and most observers are not sure which Toro Rosso driver hit Heidfeld. Alguersuari explained that he saw Buemi in front of him crashing into the Heidfeld’s car. “I was right behind and saw exactly what happened.
Seb [Buemi – my team-mate] was in corner ten fighting with the Renault and he hit him at corner 11.” Alguersuari stated that he was involved in a crash with Schumacher but was not responsible for Heidfeld. Alguersuari finished the race in 11th position.
Toro Rosso’s young duo is fighting to remain as drivers because there is another competitor in the team as a test driver, Daniel Ricardo. Buemi commented and said that he and his team-mate, Alguersuari, were involved in a crash before which is nothing new.
“I think we will be having a chat about it after I've watched a recording of the incident,” said Buemi.
Toro Rosso was counted as one of the midfield cars but both their drivers failed to prove that. Initially, Buemi finished the race in tenth position but was promoted to eighth position after Sauber’s duo, Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi, were disqualified
due to their rear-wing design violation.
