Toronado continues dominance with fourth consecutive win
Toronado displayed impressive form in the Novae Bloodstock Insurance Craven Stakes (Group 3) at Newmarket in England on Wednesday, April 18, 2013. No one was able to challenge him in the 1 mile long event, which had a cash prize of £34,026.00 for the triumphant
stallion.
The three-year-old colt was rated as the outright favourite to succeed, as his performances in the past have been quite dominant. No one was expected to challenge him at the front and the prediction of the bookies proved absolutely correct in the end. He
was given a general starting price of 8 to 11 and the punters gambled most of their bets on him.
He was quick right from the start of the race and didn’t let anyone come closer to him from the word go. Despite being in a comfortable position, he pushed a little extra towards the final few yards and increased the margin of his victory to four lengths.
This was the fourth consecutive victory for Toronado, who is yet to be defeated in his career. He made his first appearance in 2012 and showed class to one and all with a strong victory.
After making his debut, the Irish challenger appeared in a couple of more races that season, winning both of them easily. Now, he has started off his campaign positively for this year too, which would have pleased his team.
His trainer Richard Hannon was delighted to see the outcome of the race and commented, “He's a machine. He quickened, and he quickened again. He's a very good horse. He'll come back here for the Guineas and whatever beats him will win. He's not quite there
in his coat, but when he comes back in two weeks he'll look a lot better. He's been working so well, and with a lot of good horses.”
On the other hand, Toronado’s jockey Richard Hughes was also happy to win another race and seemed impressed by his young challenger.
The veteran rider stated, “I'd have been gutted if he hadn't won like that. He quickened away, and when he got into the Dip he went away again up the hill. Not many do that.”
