Toronto BBWAA Trophies Mayhem: Awards keep swinging Jose Bautista’s way
Major League Baseball is swinging into Thanksgiving and with the season over and spring training right around the corner, there isn’t much to report in. On field action has died down but there is still the prospect of entertaining oneself over the off field
drama developing since the season concluded in early November.
Teams are looking back at their performances and restructuring is being driven around to prepare for the next campaign. The month of April may seem like half a year away but there is not much time to mould the rosters into ready squads. Hasty decisions concerning
team selections have to be brought to the foot of the agenda table if there’s any hope to make it to the playoffs, next season.
Most teams are looking to add and cut off players in the off season. The free agency is rampant with activity and the task to do more in the time available can pressures costs up and down. Free agents are looking for multiyear deals, tied to longer years.
The General Managers from the American and the National League are looking to strengthen their clubs. However, while management is involved in the free market, the players are enjoying their time off field.
For the Toronto Blue Jays, the same conditions apply. The side that came 4th in the American League East, last season has been through a lot of hardships during the regular season. They never made it to the playoffs and one can’t blame them since
their opponents in their respective division listed the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays. The side may have been up against some tough opponents in the league but most of their stars shined. One in particular was none other than Jose
Bautista.
The hard hitter wasn’t renowned in the game before last season. However that all changed when the Dominican native smashed 54 homers in the regular season. Now with the season over, the player has accomplished much for the Blue Jays. Recently, Toronto’s
Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) awarded the maestro with three awards for his impressive performance during the occasion.
The hit – man drove in 124 RBIs (Runs Batted In), 54 home runs and registered a slugging percentage of .617. Bautista recently clinched the Silver Slugger award but failed to make it to the top of the American League Most Valuable Player (MVP) list this
year. Jose Bautista picked up the John Cerutti Award, which is given to, “a person associated with the day-to-day workings of Blue Jays baseball who displays goodwill, cooperation and character.”
Furthermore he won the Club’s MVP award and the Most Improved Player award.
