Toronto Blue Jays’ Brandon Morrow aims to stay offensive in 2012 – MLB News
The Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Brandon Morrow is showing some great determination for the team as well as for his pitching.
Recently, he came out in the media and described his inner energy level that has increased after the Blue Jays gave him another three year $20 million deal.
Morrow said, “The whole string of starts leading up to [the last three] kind of made me a little mad, A lot of times you pitch better with a little chip on your shoulder and I hope that’s something that I can incorporate into my game a little bit more. It’s hard to say, it’s a hypothetical.”
He added, “I never thought about it that way. I think there’s a certain level of a—hole that you need to be to really succeed. You look at the best athletes, and they’ve all got a little bit of that in them.”
Morrow also believes that he has now grown into a full pitcher and next season will be more competitive for his team where he promises to outdo the rival hitters. His final three starts of the season landed him at 10-start run in which he went 3-7 with a 6.83 ERA. This was just the beginning of his great commitment that now will follow him in the upcoming season as well.
On Morrow’s credit he had an ERA of 0.86 in those last three starts, finishing 11-11 with a 4.72 ERA. Playing two seasons as a starter, Morrow can be lethal in 2012. Last two season’s stats of 381 strike-outs in 326 innings, are somewhat exceptional when compared to his team-mate pitchers in the Blue Jays roster.
Morrow, 27, has signed a three year deal for $20 million, $4-million this season and $8-million in the next two years. While his team holds a $10 million club option for 2015 with a $1-million buyout that will still guarantee Morrow a $21-million package as whole.
His re-signing with the Blue Jays’ is highly regarded by many baseball experts while his own enthusiasm also looks high to compete well in the next season.
