Toronto Blue Jays’ General Manager Alex Anthopoulos making some big decisions – MLB Update

The Toronto Blue Jays’ General Manager Alex Anthopoulos has some big decisions to make this offseason. Blue Jays had one of their worst seasons last year as they finished fourth on the American League East Division standings table.
Both the pitching rotation and the offence failed miserably in 2012 as the Blue Jays managed to win just 73 out of 162 games. To cheer up the disappointed fans, the GM decided to increase the budget to improve the batting and starting rotation.
The GM made his first move about a couple of weeks ago when he acquired Ervin Santana from the Los Angeles Angels in a deal involving a Minor League pitcher. Santana was unable to live up to the expectations last year. According to sources, Santana is still
fighting from an injury that has halted his progress significantly over the last few years.
“It is, of course, up to the clubs involved to make the case to their respective fans that this transaction makes sense and enhances the competitive position of each, now or in the future. I am sensitive to the concerns of the fans of Miami regarding this
trade, and I understand the reactions I have heard. Baseball is a social institution with important social responsibilities and I fully understand that the Miami community has done its part to put the Marlins into a position to succeed with beautiful new Marlins
Park. Going forward,” MLB commissioner Bud Selig said of Marlins-Blue Jays 12-player deal.
However, Anthopoulos poured through his medical records to ensure that he is healthy and fit. It will be interesting to see if Santana can help the Blue Jays solve their rotation problems. The Blue Jays also re-signed the starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie
to a three year $25 million contract on Tuesday evening.
Guthrie made a big impression on Anthopoulos as he went 5-3 with a decent ERA last season. However, his ability to win games at Kauffman Stadium is what made him a top choice for the Blue Jays. The GM hired John Gibbons as the team’s new Manager. Gibbons
was fired four years ago and surely, he will be looking to lead the Blue Jays to the World Series title in the next season.
