Toronto Blue Jays’ J. P. Arencibia leaves game after getting hit on the wrist – MLB News
J. P. Arencibia had to leave on Wednesday after getting hit on his left wrist as he faced a fastball with great velocity in the 9th inning from Jonathan Papelbon during the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox game.
As the Toronto Blue Jays lost to the Boston Red Sox 6-4, Arencbia’s departure is of a little worry, but the Toronto manager, John Farrell did not demonstrate any panic.
"He demonstrated good grip strength on the field," Farrell said. "His removal was more precautionary at this point. We'll reevaluate him in the morning if there needs to be any further imaging, but at this point, that wouldn't be the case."
Arencibia has been struggling with occasional bouts of injury as had dislocated his left thumb in the start of this year.
The 25-year-old Arencibia has played 67 games in the Regular Season this year with 240 at-bat. He has scored 25 runs with 52 hits to his credit having 37 RBIs making his average .217.
Interestingly, he has played a total of 78 games to score 28 runs with 57 hits, averaging .207. He was drafted to the Blue Jays in 2007 to serve in the catcher’s position. His slugging percentage stands at .436.
The Blue Jays’ have hardly had an impressive credential to boast this year with the kind of performance they have put. Standing 21th
in the Major League Baseball ranking the team has a lot to do to improve their record.
Apart from Ricky Romero who is the only starter of the team with double-digit quality starts, other team members, as a whole, have collectively been unable to show any team work.
If nothing else, 47 losses, compared to 42 wins, serve as the most infallible example of how wrong things have remained lately. In the Eastern Division, they rank fourth proceeding only by the Baltimore Orioles who have lost 49 games.
As things proceed now, there does not apparently seem any big change in the team. For now the team is trying to get over the hitting problem it has been facing for quite a while.
The last game against the Boston Red Sox proved once again that a complete overhaul in the strategy has become inevitable and that the team has to do it sooner than later to reap the favourable result it expects.
Arencibia’s being taken out would not be much of a worry now, but if he turns out to be seriously injured, he may have to be sent to the disabled-list, prompting a change in the line-up.
