Toronto Blue Jays’ Rajai Davis on 15 day disabled-list – MLB News
The torn left hamstring resulted in Rajai Davis being placed in the 15-day disabled list on Sunday, August 14. Although the Toronto Blue Jays won the game 5-4, the news of the outfielder’s injury overshadowed the happiness.
Blue Jays have asked Mike McCoy to replace Davis. The 30-year-old Toronto Blue Jays’ star had the injury on the eighth inning. He was at-bat and had just hit the shortstop when he returned not in a normal start, but rather limping.
Davis explained what actually transpired once he had the hit. "I felt good going up to the box," Davis said. "I think a couple of steps after my swing I kind of felt a pop in my leg, and I guess the rest is history.”
Rajai does not have a long history of injuries. As he has been placed in the DL, it’s slightly troubling for him. "I'm not sure, because this never happened in my career," Davis said when asked if he knew how long rehab would take. "This is a first for me.”
Despite the unexpected outcome of it, Davis wants to remain positive. "I think things happen for a reason. You take the good with the bad. I just don't consider everything like this bad."
Rajai Davis is certainly one of the most invaluable assets that the Toronto Blue Jays boast. With his five years experience, the player has contributed to the victories of the team on several occasions.
His 2011 regular season makes a good read as he has played 95 games so far with 320 at-bats. The star player, who is now in 15 day disabled-list, has scored a total of 44 runs with 29 RBIs to his credit, having held a .238 average with .273 OBP.
Of the last 10 games that he had played, Davis contributed in the 7 victories, underscoring the fact that his staying in the team will help them in competing against some of the rival teams.
The Toronto Blue Jays have also maintained a good record in MLB season this year. While the team is faced with strong competitors like the Boston Red Sox and Yankees in the Eastern Division, the overall record of Blue Jays remains quite satisfactory for
them.
The team has so far won 61 of its games and is expected to put up equally good performance in the days ahead. It is for this reason that Rajai Davis quick return will be a harbinger of good and will significantly help the team to float in the season.
It will be interesting to see the impact of Davis’ absence on the team, Toronto will be hoping he returns to action soon.
