Toronto Blue Jays: Regular season results – MLB August 2011
After improving their win-loss record to 55-53 in July, Toronto Blue Jays were looking to achieve even better results during the month of August 2011. Claiming a sensational 3-1 victory in first game of a three match series against Tampa Bay Rays, the Blue
Jays adopted a very aggressive approach during the contest.
Ricky Romero and Jon Rauch combined on a three hitter and Jose Bautista blasted his 32nd homer of the season to lift the Blue Jays to a well deserved series victory.
"It was good to see Jose get a 2-0 fastball and do what he's very much capable of doing," Farrell said
In the pitching department, Romero did a marvellous job to restrict the Rays to a very small total after they had all the bases loaded. Commenting on Romero’s performance, John Farrell made the following comments.
"He had a tough first couple innings," Farrell said. "He created a jam in the second that he found a way to pitch out of it."
However, the Blue Jays failed to maintain their good form in the following two games, which damaged their record to 56-55. Looking to salvage some of their lost pride, the Blue Jays gave considerable results in their next three match series against Baltimore
Orioles. Clinching a thrilling 5-4 victory in game one of the series, John Farrell and his men gained a lot of confidence.
Although they lost their way a bit in the second game, they finished the series strongly with a stunning 7-2 effort in the final game. Ricky Romero, once again, was the star of the show as he struck-out five and walked none to win his third straight start
of the regular season.
"You can't overstate what Ricky did today in probably close to 100 degree temperatures, or it felt like it," manager John Farrell said. "Just a very good game."
Toronto Blue Jays had a tough series against Oakland athletics as they lost two of the three games by big margins. However, they were able to re-group themselves in their next series against the Seattle Mariners, which they eventually won 2-1. Despite losing
the opening encounter 1-0, the Blue Rays kept searching for the opening. Upsetting the inform Mariners in games two and three of the series, the AL East team seemed to be getting back on track to qualify for the World Series.
However, the Blue Jays ended the month on a poor note as they received a hammering from the Kansas City Royals (1-2) and Tampa Bay Rays (1-3). Toronto will be looking to put in a better performance in their next match-ups as the team are trying desperately
to get into the post-season.
