Toronto Blue Jays: Regular season results – MLB July 2011
Toronto Blue Jays had a forgettable start to the month of July as they were upset 6-7 in the opening game of their three match series against Philadelphia Phillies. Despite scoring consistently, the Blue Jays were outclassed in finer details of the game
to let the opposition take a 1-0 lead in the series.
A similar pattern of play was observed in the following game as well as the Blue Jays looked to level the series. However, they fell short of expectations once more to suffer their first series loss of the month. Making a strong come back, the Blue Jays
clinched a well deserved 7-4 victory in third and final game of the series to restore some of their lost pride.
Jose Bautista hit his Major League leading 27th homer and the Blue Jays hit three home-runs in a four-runs eighth inning to brush aside the Phillies. Commenting on Bautista’s performance, Blue Jays’ manager John Farrell said, "He's been extremely
productive against left-handers and that was the case again tonight. He's done an excellent at the plate and behind the plate, and tonight he had a very good game all-around."
The Blue Jays made a superb start to their next series against Boston Red Sox, clinching the opening encounter 9-7 against the inform team. The AL East team displayed some high quality baseball right from the start to put their rivals under extreme pressure
as they took a 1-0 lead in the series. However, John Farrell and his men were unable to maintain their form in the following two games as they suffered their second consecutive series loss of the month.
After losing the first game of their four match series against Cleveland Indians, the Blue Jays regrouped themselves brilliantly to earn their first series victory in the month of July. Trailing 0-1 in the series, the Blue Jays won three straight games to
lift their spirits. Showing great fighting abilities and determination in game three of the series, they secured a well deserved victory in a closely contested encounter.
Jose Bautista once again was star of the show as he blasted two homers to lift his side to a 5-4 victory.
"That's why he's our best player," Toronto manager John Farrell said. "He comes through in moments like that, not just when you're down three or four or up three or four."
Blue Jays had a decent series against New York Yankees, winning two out four games to improve their win-loss record to 47-47. They ended the month strongly with victories over Seattle Mariners, Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers. All in all it was a decent
month for the Blue Jays as they were able to take on some of the top tier teams in the league with some satisfactory results.
