Toronto Blue Jays: Regular season results – MLB May 2011
Toronto Blue Jays had a decent run during the month of April 2011 and they were hoping to achieve similar results in the following month as well. However, they struggled to find their form early on as they were hammered 1-2 in their first three match series
against Tampa Bay Rays. Unable to handle the pressure, John Farrell and his men made a large number of unforced errors on the field and they eventually paid the price.
Although they put up a good fight in game one of the series against the Rays, the overall quality of their game play was way below par. The Blue Jays bounced back in game two to level the series. Adam Lind hit a wonderful home-run in his four hit night to
let his side come back into the series.
Blue Jays continued their poor form in their next series against Detroit Tigers as well, winning only one out of four games. Although they had a bright start to the series against the Tigers with a superb 7-4 victory in game one, they were unable to maintain
their form in the following three games to let their rivals secure a tremendous 3-1 series victory.
John Farrell and his men were very disappointed with the results they had achieved in the series. However, the team manager aimed to continue their hard work to turn things around for them in the League. Despite being criticised heavily for their defensive
approach, the AL East team displayed some high quality baseball in their next two match series against the inform Boston Red Sox. Crushing the Red Sox in both games, the Blue Jays proved their status as one of the top teams capable of taking on any squad in
the League.
John McDonald homered and Rajai Davis drove in four hits as the Toronto Blue Jays outshined the Sox 9-3 in game two to complete their first series victory of the month.
"It's just good to see him with the confidence he has currently, the way he's swinging the bat," manager John Farrell commented on McDonald’s performance. "He's hitting fastballs and breaking balls alike."
The Blue Jays continued to impress the critics as they ended the month with series victories over Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox, which improved their win-loss record to 27-26.
The team was building momentum as they began to work together and each player was pulling their weight on the field. Toronto is a very talented team with the depth to compete at any level and take their winning ways into a possible post-season position after
the regular season is over. This is what all teams are striving for.
