Toronto Blue Jays: Regular season results – MLB September 2011
Toronto Blue Jays made a great start to the month of September 2011 as they earned a hard fought 8-6 victory against Baltimore Orioles to clinch the three match series. Brett Lawrie, who had been in the Majors for a month, hit a tie-breaking two-run homer
in the eighth inning of the game to lift his side to a memorable win.
"Lawrie continues to play and swing the bat as good as you can expect," acting manager Don Wakamatsu said.
"No doubt, you can't sell him short." He further added.
"It's a home away from home. It's where it all started," Lawrie said. "We'll be back here some day."
Blue Jays were looking to achieve similar results in their next series against New York Yankees as well but as it turned out they were outplayed in each of the three games. John Farrell and his men put up a great fight in the opening match but they eventually
paid the price for their large number of unforced errors, losing the game 2-3.
Similar pattern of play was observed in the following game as the Blue Jays looked for entry back into the series. However, they fell short of their targets once again to let the opposition record a comprehensive 2-0 series victory. Under pressure, the Blue
Rays were crushed in almost all aspects of the game in the third and final game, which concluded a disastrous series result for them.
Looking down and out, the Blue Jays needed to lift themselves before their next series against the Boston Red Sox. Although the AL East team lost the second game of the series, they came back strongly in third and fourth games to record an emphatic 3-1 win
over one of the hottest baseball team, the Boston Red Sox.
Ricky Romero did a sensational job in the pitching department as he helped the Blue Jays restrict the opposition to a very small total.
"The one thing Ricky does, he doesn't leave anything on the field," Blue Jays’ manager John Farrell said. "He gives his all every single time he walks to the mound, and when you go up against opponents like tonight, you have to be at your best."
Looking to get to the top of the Wild Card standings, the Blue Jays earned another incredible 2-1 series victory over the Baltimore Orioles that improved their win-loss record to 74-73. The Blue Jays ended the month with victories over strong teams like
New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and they levelled the series with the Los Angeles Angels 2-all. However, John Farrell’s team were unable to qualify for the playoffs despite delivering all the goods at the end of regular season.
