Toronto Blue Jays acquire Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey – MLB Update
The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired this year’s Cy Young winner starting pitcher R.A. Dickey from the New York Mets. The Blue Jays initiated the deal sending their prized young catcher Travis d’Arnaud to the Mets.
The Blue Jays now will enjoy Dickey’s presence to an improved starting rotation in 2013 Major League Baseball season. Dickey last played for the Mets and showed brilliant performance with 2.73 ERA along with 20-6 win-loss, 230 strikeouts and 1.05 WHIP.
As Blue Jays have acquired Dickey from the Mets, they then extended his contract to two-year worth $29 million. Blue Jays also possess $12 million 2016 option for nine-year experienced Dickey.
“We clearly are convinced this can be a front line starter for us," said Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos on a conference call Monday night.
He added, "I don't think he gets the credit or the respect he deserves because of his age, and because of what he does throw. I understand because it's so rare. But there's so much overwhelming data evidence that points to him continuing to have this success."
Dickey tweeted, “Now that its official, I want to say that I don't have the words to express how grateful I am to you for the steadfast support, Thank you for making me feel wanted, looking forward to a new chapter with the Jays.”
Along with Dickey, the Toronto Blue Jays also acquired catcher Josh Thole and minor-league catcher Mike Mickeas. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays sent their catcher John Buck along with minor-league right-hander Noah Syndergaard and minor-league outfielder Wuilmer
Beccera to the Mets.
Experts believe that this recent deal between Blue Jays and Mets will create a huge impact. It will give both teams a slight leverage to open up for next Major League season. The Blue Jays here in some experts’ view are more fortunate that Dickey will be
playing for them.
Dickey, with last season’s brilliant performance under his belt, is a highly talented individual and possesses large experience in the league. He certainly will try to give his best on the mound for a better long term relationship with the Blue Jays.
