Toronto Blue Jays acquire Tyson Brummett from Philadelphia Phillies on waiver - MLB Update
Right handed pitcher Tyson Brummett, who was put on waiver by Philadelphia Phillies, has been acquired by Toronto Blue Jays.
Brummett has just recently made his Major League debut with the Phillies. He was brought in the big league by the Phillies due to tremendous performances that he put up in the Minor League.
He stayed in the Double-A and Triple-A in the Phillies' farm system and delivered solid shows there in number of games. His first appearance in the Majors was satisfactory as he finished with less than one inning scoreless.
During the season, Phillies had quality hurlers on their rotation but down the line some of them sustained injuries. As a result, options shortened for the Phillies late in the season when they were trying their best to improve the winning percentage and
end the season on a high.
The Phillies had to call up hurlers from their farm system in order to fill the vacuum. Fortunately, their Minor Leaguers did not disappoint them as much as can be expected given the fact that they were totally inexperienced for performing at this level.
Apart from this, Philadelphia confronted issues in their bullpen as relief pitchers caused them losses in number of occasions.
Before the Phillies introduced young pitchers in the season, they suffered defeats mainly due to the fact that late in the innings their relievers leaked runs.
Especially in the first half of the season, their bullpen was below par.
One of the reasons why the Phillies' starters did not record greater number of wins in the season was the consistent meltdowns suffered by their relief pitchers.
Phillies took immediate steps and added new arms after they realised that their bullpen cannot accomplish the job properly. Interestingly, results followed immediately in the form of the improvement in the win-loss record.
Furthermore, new additions gave hope for future to the Phillies that they can have solid hurlers available in their bullpen for the upcoming seasons.
Blue Jays will be expecting that Brummett lives up to the reasons that motivated them to obtain him from the waiver. They will be hoping that he becomes a reliable arm in the bullpen and helps them in the years to come.
