Toronto Blue Jays annihilate Boston Red Sox 15-7 at Fenway Park – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays continued to impress the critics as they annihilated the Boston Red Sox 15-7 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday, July 22 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Dominating their opponents in almost all aspects of the game, John Farrell and company had secured an easy 6-1 win in series opener.
With momentum on their side, the Blue Jays came up with another masterful performance in Game 2 to dent their opponents’ confidence levels.
Toronto’s offence looked absolutely unstoppable on in the finale as they put 15 runs on the board.
"It was just a very good offensive day and a very good weekend, considering what we came out of in New York and the loss of Jose," Toronto manager John Farrell said. "The guys bounced back and we had a very good weekend here."
Red Sox, on the other hand, gave their 100 percent to avoid a humiliating series defeat but the inevitable eventually happened. Starting pitcher Jon Lester had one of the worst outings of his career to take his eighth loss of the season.
Allowing nine hits and 11 runs in just four innings, he looked clueless on the mound. His counterpart from Toronto, Henderson Alvarez gave up seven runs and eight hits in five plus innings to pick up his sixth win.
Brett Lawrie provided the Blue Jays with an excellent start with a home-run to left in the first inning. Edwin Encarnacion, J.P. Arencibia, Colby Rasmus and Rajai Davis made the most of scoring opportunities to extend Blue Jays’ lead to 5-0 in the first.
Arencibia, Davis and left-fielder Travis Snider homered in the second and the fifth to help their side take complete control of the situation.
"I think the boys set the tone. First pitch of the game, Brett comes out swinging," Snider said. "J.P. and the rest of the at-bats we put together against Lester were good at-bats against a good pitcher like Lester. We've struggled (against him) before and
to come out of here with a sweep is nice."
With their stunning win on Sunday evening, the Blue Jays also completed a rare series sweep at Fenway Park.
