Toronto Blue Jays annihilate Oakland Athletics 10-4 in series finale – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays bounced back superbly for a 10-4 victory against the Oakland Athletics at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Manager John Farrell will be very pleased with his outcome of the clash especially after the beating Blue Jays took in first two games of the series. The offence, in particular, deserves a lot of credit for using the conditions perfectly.
"Just a good come-from-behind win today," Toronto manager John Farrell said in a post game interview. "Particularly with the way things finished up last night."
Edwin Encarnacion, who has recently signed on a contract with Blue Jays, showed just what is capable of as he hit a three run home-run to left in the fourth to bring his team back into the contest. Travis Snider reached on a bunt single to pitcher in the
sixth, Brett Lawrie and Colby Rasmus scored to put the Blue Jays 5-4 ahead.
Kelly Johnson also made the most of scoring opportunities, adding a solo home-run to right in the seventh inning to extend Toronto’s lead to 6-4. First baseman Yan Gomes and second baseman Johnson continued to put pressure on Athletics’ pitching rotation,
adding valuable runs in the eighth.
"One of the reasons we've been successful is everyone's got a short memory here," Gomes said. "When we lose, once we leave these double doors, we clean the slate and come back ready to play tomorrow."
Blue Jays’ starting pitcher Aaron Laffey gave up five hits and four runs in just over five innings. Relief pitcher Brandon Lyon pitched scoreless 1.1 innings while striking-out three to grab his first win of the season.
Athletics’ starter Tommy Milone allowed eight hits and six runs to take his seventh loss of the season. Blue Jays, who are at the bottom of American League East Division standings, will take lot of confidence from their win against the inform A’s and it
will be interesting to see if they can continue their good work in their next series against Detroit Tigers.
