Toronto Blue Jays annihilated by Baltimore Orioles 0-12 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays were humiliated in front of their home crowd as they lost to the Baltimore Orioles 0-12 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Orioles’ starting pitcher Zach Britton played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he gave up just four hits in seven effective innings.
"He's really in a good place right now," Showalter said of Britton. "He was pretty relentless tonight, he kept pounding the zone."
"There was actually a point where it wasn't raining on the mound but it was raining behind the plate," Britton said. "I was laughing at them because they had to wear it and I didn't."
Blue Jays’ starter, Carlos Villanueva was hit hard in his six plus innings of start. After pitching four scoreless innings, Villanueva lost his way and allowed six runs on seven hits over his next two innings to take his fifth loss of the season.
"We were definitely not prepared for that," he said. "It was a tough inning. My cleats were muddy."
Relief pitchers Aaron Loup, Chad Beck and Brandon Lyon were also unable to stop the flow of runs as Orioles put up a huge total on the board. Loup gave up five hits and four runs in just 0.1 innings as Baltimore took complete control of the situation.
Beck also struggled with his line, allowing four hits and two runs in just an inning. Only Rajai Davis, Yunel Escobar, Moises Sierra and Adeiny Hechavarria managed to get hits for the Blue Jays, who are now on a four game losing streak.
"I don't even know why they opened it in the first place," said Mark Reynolds, who hit a three run home-run for the Orioles. "It was raining outside all day."
Manager John Farrell was disgusted with what he saw from pitching rotation and the batting line-up. Surely, he will be expecting his men to make a strong come back in the finale to avoid an embarrassing series sweep.
With eight wins in their last ten games, Orioles have now moved to first place on the American League East Division standings table. It will be interesting to see if they can maintain their excellent form to reach the post season.
