Toronto Blue Jays bash reeling Texas Rangers for a massive win
The Toronto Blue Jays had their way with the Rangers and they did it in great fashion. They are already known for their inconsistency in the league and when they hosted the Texas Rangers at home in the Rogers Centre, many believed this could turn out to be an interesting encounter. In front of 17,559 fans in the stands, that is exactly what happened. Both ball clubs had a bad string of performances leading up to the series and this fixture provided an opportunity to oust their recent form and establish a morale boosting stance in the roster.
The Rangers had been going through a consecutive 3 games defeat and unfortunately their fates took a toll on them last night when Tommy Hunter reported in for his pitching duties and failed miserably. He allowed 7 hits, 7 runs and 2 walks in his 7 innings of play. He only struck out 4 during his 97 throws.
Ricky Romero did well on the other end, as the Blue Jays won in decent fashion. Their star pitcher struck out just 2 in his 99 pitches but allowed 7 hits, 1 run and 2 walks in his 7 innings of play. The Jays were lucky and well equipped to get the win. It was a surprise they dominated the West Division side in such a manner.
The Texas side started the line-up action but their hitting faction could not rise to the top to take the scoring initiative to the board. The blue birds were the first ones to score and they’re run couldn’t have come in the weirdest way.  The 1st for Toronto came in the bottom 2nd and Vernon Wells delivered the golden egg. His bid began with an infield single to the third. Tommy walked Lyle Overbay and Wells got to second base with ease. He moved to the third, subsequently after Adam Lind grounded out to second. The last sprint through the fourth base came with luck as Hunter wild pitched and got the Jays ahead.
The Jays didn’t take long to increase their lead. They struck again in the bottom 3rd and Vernon was responsible again. The power hitter ultimately decided the match with just one hit and nothing more could have been done to dent the Texas side more. Dewayne Wise had been on third base and Jose Bautista reached the first base through a Hunter walk. When Wells came on to bat, no one could have imagined how serious a threat he was. Vernon proved his worth when he smashed a 385-feet homer to the left and got three runs on the board as the rest of his fellow hitters cleared their bases for the easy jog to the dugout. The team was now on 4 and the innings was still on. Lyle came in next and banged a double to the right centre. Aaron Hill walked in and it was another humiliating hit for Tommy Hunter, who was searching for his 13th win of the season. The pitcher was hit cleanly by Hill for a 385-feet homer to the left. That smash got the team to their 6th run and closed the innings with a massive lead.
The Rangers were scoreless and it took David Murphy to present a clear and present comeback. However, his effort would be one of the few to come against Ricky Romero in the night. Vladimir Guerrero was the man to lead a counter attack and his run in the top 4th came with some decent stride. He doubled to the deep right to get himself off the plate. Jorge Cantu’s grounder out then got him to third after which Murphy struck a single to the centre and released the hitter for the first Texas run. Hunter, who had done a lot of damage to the visitors, continued to pitch and the Blue Birds aggravated the West Division Leader’s pain with Yunel Escobar, who smashed a 386-feet homer to the left for the 7th fun in the bottom 7th.
Texas would only reply once and that came in the top 9th as Michael Young’s double to the centre got Andres Blanco through for the last and 2 run of the team. The Jays won the series 7 – 2 and much is left to be played in the series.
