Toronto Blue Jays battle past Boston Red Sox 3-2 – MLB Spring Training
Toronto Blue Jays edged Boston Red Sox 3-2 at the JetBlue Park at Fenway South in lee County, Florida on Thursday, March 29 in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
For the Blue Jays, Anthony Gose displayed some high quality hitting skills as he ran all over the Red Sox to help his team emerge victorious in a thrilling battle. Gose batted in a leadoff walk in the eighth inning. Stealing the second, third and home, his performance turned to be a match winning one for the Blue Jays.
With seven stolen bases this spring, Gose has shown that he is fast and athletic. He had 194 stolen bases in the minor league system last season and it will be interesting to see if he can continue his superb run in MLB.
"I never saw anybody steal second, third and home in the same inning in my career," Blue Jays manager John Farrell said. "He is obviously exciting. He can take over on the basepaths. He has a combination of pure speed, plus the ability to read some things. You just turn him loose. He's a pure basestealer.”
For the Red Sox, right handed starter Alfredo Aceves pitched six solid innings, giving up just two runs on three hits. He had four strikeouts and two walks. Aceves will be very pleased to see his dreams coming true.
"Real fast runner being a young daring guy," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said, "checked him four times. The fifth time he didn't check him. He lobbed it and Justin got it stuck in his glove, I guess."
The Blue Jays showed great composure and mental toughness in a game that was played on an extremely competitive note. Pitching with great control and accuracy, the Blue Jays managed to keep their rivals to a very small total, which proved to the difference between the two teams at the end of contest.
With their win on Thursday, the Blue Jays have now improved their spring win-loss record to 22-4 and extended their winning streak to ten games.
