Toronto Blue Jays battle past Oakland Athletics 5-2 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays fought hard to earn a deserving 5-2 win against Oakland Athletics at O.co. Coliseum in Oakland, California on Wednesday, May 9 in the second game of their two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Blue Jays were outclassed by the Athletics in the opening game of the series and they were hoping to turn things around in the finale to gain some winning momentum.
Adam Lind put up a fine performance as he hit a home run to the right in the fourth inning to help Toronto take 2-0 lead. Colby Rasmus also displayed some high quality hitting skills as he singled to right to give the Blue Jays 3-1 lead.
J.P. Arencibia homered to the left in the seventh and Edwin Encarnacion hit a home run in the eighth to help their establish complete control over the contest. Brandon Morrow made the most of available opportunities to win his four straight start of the season. Morrow struck out a season high 10 batters in six sharp innings as he outpitched his counterpart from Athletics, Tyson Ross.
Jonny Gomes scored first run for the Athletics in the fifth inning as he singled to left centre but the Athletics failed to take advantage of some easy scoring opportunities in closing stages.
"I wasn't as sharp as I have been. I walked too many guys and it hurt me in the fifth. I didn't have a good slider today and that probably affected things. My stuff was still good," Morrow said in a post game interview. "It's always fun to come here. I always have family and friends who show up. I got a few texts from my coaches at Cal and then there are friends who show up unannounced."
"I was a little shaky in the first but found that rhythm and settled in a little bit," Ross said.
Toronto Blue Jays have given some impressive performances since the start of the season and they are now 17-14. If they can bring little bit more consistency in their game play, they will surely make it to the playoffs.
