Toronto Blue Jays beat Colorado Rockies 8-3 – MLB news
Toronto Blue Jays posted another wonderful performance as they annihilated the Colorado Rockies 8-3 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Tuesday, June 18 in Game 2 of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
It was another important win for the Blue Jays who are looking to find to get over the 0.5 win percentage mark. Blue Jays had a poor last season and they started this year’s regular season on a poor note too. It will be interesting to see if they can continue
their excellent winning streak to have any chance of making it to the playoffs.
Blue Jays’ starting pitcher Esmil Rogers played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he allowed just four hits and three runs in six plus sold innings to claim his third win of the season. Striking out batters at regular intervals, he ensured
the Blue Jays had complete control of the situation. Relief pitchers Aaron Loup, Darren Oliver and Steve Delabar also made useful contributions as they combined to toss up 2 scoreless innings to help the Blue Jays hold on to their five run lead.
“He's got a dynamite arm,” Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. “He's really tough on the right-handed hitters. He can let it fly inside. He shut down a good-hitting team.”
“His sinker is the biggest difference,” Arencibia said. “Earlier guys could jump on his fastball. He had a pretty straight fastball. Now he's sinking it so you really have to respect it.”
“I didn't execute pitches,” Rockies’ starter Jeff Francis said. “You leave them up like that to those guys and you know they're going to make you pay and they did. They got me early.”
Edwin Encarnacion provided the Blue Jays with a perfect start as he doubled to deep centre in the first inning to put his side on the board. Adam Lind singled to centre and Rajai Davis singled to shallow left to extend the lead to 3-0. Encarnacion, JP Arencibia
and Izturis hit back to back home runs as the Blue Jays posted a huge total on the board.
