Toronto Blue Jays beat Tampa Bay Rays 8-7 - MLB News
Toronto Blue Jays showed excellent fighting skills and determination as they edged past the Tampa Bay Rays 8-7 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida on Monday, May 6 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball
regular season. With their win, the Blue Jays improved their win-loss record to 12-21 and it will be interesting to see if they can continue the good work to create some kind of problems for other American League East Division title contenders including the
New York Yankees, the Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox.
Despite having the home conditions working in their favour, the Rays were unable to find the winning ways. Just like the Blue Jays, the Rays have also struggled to find consistency in their results since the start of the season. The Rays showed great fighting
abilities in 2012 but they are showing no signs of improvement this season. It will b e exciting to see if the Rays can learn from their mistakes to give the Blue Jays a taste of their own medicine in the next game to keep the series alive.
"I think this game kind of evens itself out and if guys keep coming with positive attitudes and keep coming ready to work, it's going to turn. That's the way this game is, and you've got to continue to stay positive and come ready to play every day," Arencibia
said after the Blue Jays won for just the fourth time in 14 games.
"They've got a pretty good pitching staff over there, and when they put seven on the board they're usually going to have a pretty good night," Arencibia added. "Fortunately, we were able to come back and answer."
Blue Jays’ starting pitcher Mark Buehrle showed the stuff he is capable off. In a high scoring contest, the right hander allowed just nine hits and seven runs. However, it was relief pitcher and the closer Casey Janssen who walked away with his first win
of the season after he pitched the perfect ninth, helping his side hold on to a slim one run lead.
