Toronto Blue Jays beat Texas Rangers 3-1 – MLB news
Toronto Blue Jays dig deep to overcome the inform Texas Rangers 3-1 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Arlington Texas on Thursday, June 13 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
It was an important win for the Blue Jays, who have been struggling to find consistency in their game play since the start of the season. A comprehensive win against one of the strongest teams in the American League will certainly boost their confidence
and it will be exciting to see if the Blue Jays can continue the good work in Game 2 to take an impassable 2-0 series lead.
Rangers looked completely out of touch right from the start of the contest. The batting lineup failed to live up to the expectations and eventually paid the ultimate price. Credit should be also given to the Blue Jays’ starting rotation for showing nerves
of steel under pressure. Starting pitcher Esmil Rogers led from the front as he allowed just five hits and one run in seven innings to grab his second win of the season.
“He was tremendous, he really was. You could kind of see that building,” Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said of Rogers. “He's really taken to it.”
“I'm not amazed,” Darvish said through his interpreter. “This is baseball. Anything can happen. Some games you get a lot of run support. Others you don't,” he said. “I'm not really surprised by it.”
“Yeah, big hit,” Gibbons said. “Jose's big at-bat before that and (Bonifacio) getting it started and a nice sac bunt, we played well.”
Relief pitchers Steve Delabar and Casey Janssen also made useful contributions as they combined to pitch two scoreless innings of relief. Rangers’ starter Yu Darvish allowed three hits and one run in seven innings while striking out nine batters.
Nelson Cruz provided the Rangers with a perfect start as he homered to right in the second inning to put his side on the board. Melky Cabrera and Edwin Encarnacion drove in vital runs to help the Blue Jays come back from behind for a thrilling win.
