Toronto Blue Jays brush aside Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays brushed aside Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Sunday, June 17 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
John Farrell and company will be very pleased with their performance in the series that was extremely important to them.
Beating the Phillies in all three games, the Blue Jays are once again two games ahead of .500 win percentage mark and it will be very exciting to see if they can produce similar results in their upcoming games to have any chance making it to the playoffs
this season.
Starting pitcher Brett Cecil also had a great time on the mound as he won for the first time in almost a year.
Colby Rasmus had an excellent time with the bat. The centre fielder provided the Blue Jays with a perfect start as he doubled to deep centre in the first inning to put his side 1-0 ahead. Kelly Johnson also played a key role in deciding the outcome
of the clash with a single to centre in the first to double Toronto’s advantage to 2-0.
"That's why it's a long year," Jim Thome said after hitting his 608th career home run. "You keep battling and you obviously don't want to go through the times we're going through. It can be frustrating because we have a very
talented club."
"What we had hoped to see," Blue Jays manager John Farrell said. "He pitched with a lot more crispness than we last saw in spring training. He kept the game under control, he threw a lot of strikes and it was an encouraging outing for him."
Rajai Davis had a two out RBI single to help his side reclaim the lead after the Phillies levelled the score 2-2 in the third. Rasmus homered to right in the fifth to give his side complete control of the situation, leading the score at 5-2. Philadelphia,
who is now at the last place on National League East Division, will have to work extremely hard to restore some of the lost pride.
