Toronto Blue Jays closer Sergio Santos out for a month – MLB News
Things are getting worse for the Toronto Blue Jays management who is currently facing some serious injury issues regarding one of their key closing pitchers, Sergio Santos.
Earlier on Saturday evening, the team management placed him on two weeks’ disabled list due to soreness of his right shoulder, but now plenty of sources are telling in the media and speculating different stories that Santos might not be able to play for an entire month as he needed a complete rest before coming onto the field again.
Later on Tuesday, the team manager John Farrell has said when he confirmed that Santos will be resting for next 15 days or so. “We feel like it’s going to be a minimum of four weeks, It will be 10-to-14 days of no-throw and then as we use as a typical rule of thumb, it will be the same number of days to get back to where we left off. So that’s going to take a four-week period.” Farrell said.
“I think the best way to outline it now is at the end of the 14-day period, once he initiates a throwing program, we’ll re-evaluate where he’s at and how we would advance through his throwing program at that point,” Farrell added.
Two-year veteran and former Chicago White Sox player, Santos came into this season with huge confidence. His Spring Training outings were also well balanced as he showed some spirited performances during the whole month.
Before his shoulder started to give him some troubles, Toronto Blue Jays ’ new closer was pitching with an ERA of 9.00 along with two saves, four strikeouts and 2.00 WHIP.
Experts believe that it is not a good sign for Rays who are already facing difficulties at start of the season and now their key closer is out for a month due to shoulder soreness which will create further problems for Toronto’s baseball franchise.
The Blue Jays at the moment have only won three regular series encounters since coming into the season on April 5. The Blue Jays won two series against the Baltimore Orioles and one against the Tampa Bay Rays and if Santos could not recover soon, there will be some tough tasks ahead for them.
