Toronto Blue Jays complete series sweep against Baltimore Orioles – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays secured an emphatic series sweep against the inform Baltimore Orioles with an impressive 4-1 win at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Wednesday, May 30 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular
season.
Ryan Flaherty provided an excellent start to the Orioles as he reached an infield single to shortstop in the second inning. Edwin Encarnacion responded immediately for Blue Jays as he homered to left to level score at 1-1.
Rajai Davis once again played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he homered to left in the third to put Toronto 2-1 ahead. Brett Lawrie also joined the party with a solo homer run to centre in the fourth. Colby Rasmus homered to right centre
in the fifth to give a commanding 4-1 lead to his team.
Starting pitcher Brandon Morrow had to leave the game after being struck by a line drive but Toronto held on to their lead to win the game.
"I think this day off might be needed to let us clear our heads, relax and come out Friday with a little bit more energy," Orioles’ Adam Jones said.
"We didn't start off the road trip good but we still can salvage this road trip," Jones added. "We have six more games and we want two sweeps."
"There's some games where you get away with some mistakes," Baltimore’s starting pitcher Jason Hammel said. "Today I made a few mistakes and they all left the yard."
With their win against the Orioles, the Blue Jays also improved their record to 27-24, moving past the .500 win percentage mark for the second time this season. Showing great composure and determination, John Farrell and his men outplayed their rivals in
finer details of the game in the opening game.
Although the Orioles put up a brave fight in the second, they were unable to stop Toronto from earning a decisive 2-0 lead in the series. In some ways, Blue Jays’ sweep against Baltimore is of great importance. They will be feeling very confident about themselves
after crushing one of the strongest teams in the American League.
