Toronto Blue Jays continue to decline, lose to Washington Nationals 2-4 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays continued their decline on American League East Division standings as they lost to Washington Nationals 2-4 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Tuesday, June 12 in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Base
regular season.
Showing unmatchable offensive and solid defensive powers, the Nationals cruised to their fifth straight win, improving their win-loss record to 37-23.
Washington finished third in National League East Division last season with an ordinary 80-81 record.
Credit should be given to them for showing great bounceback ability. If the Nationals can keep using the right hitting and pitching combination, surely they will make it to the playoffs.
"I don't really hit big home runs," said Bryce Harper, who homered for Nationals in the third. "It's usually just line drives that get going. That was a pretty good one tonight. At the beginning of the year, I usually struggle and then once I get going,
it's scary."
The Blue Jays, on the other hand, will be disappointed with their efforts over the last few days. Their lost to Washington on Tuesday evening was their sixth in last ten games.
It will be exciting to see if they can come up with a better game plan in the finale to stay within touching distance of League’s leaders New York Yankees.
(Wednesday) is going to be a big day," manager Davey Johnson said. "We've got our big horse going. We just need to finish this off."
"We're scuffling right now a little bit with men in scoring position," manager John Farrell said. "When he's missed on the plate, he hasn't gotten away with a mistake."
Jose Bautista displayed some top quality hitting skills in a low scoring game as he homered to left in the fifth inning to reduce Nationals’ lead to 2-3.
However, no one else was really able to cope with Chien Ming Wang’s dipping fastballs and low trajectory curveballs and the Nationals held on to their slim lead to improve 5-0 on their road trip.
With ace Jhonatan Solano starting in Wednesday’s final, they have an excellent chance to make history.
