Toronto Blue Jays crush Baltimore Orioles 9-5 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays humiliated the Baltimore Orioles 9-5 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Monday, September 24 in second game of their four match series.
Orioles needed to win the game against the Blue Jays to stay in the American League East Division title race but that did not turn out to be the case as the inspired Blue Jays played out of their skins to level the series 1-1.
Orioles’ starting pitcher Wei Yin Chen took his 10th loss of the season after he allowed nine hits and five runs in five innings. Giving up two home-runs, Chen looked completely out of sorts on Monday evening.
Relief pitchers Jake Arrieta was also hit hard in his two innings of relief, giving up three hits and four runs to give Blue Jays complete control of the situation.
"Good for him and good for us," Blue Jays’ manager John Farrell said. "We needed a win and it's been a long time since Ricky's had a W."
Pedro Strop and Zach Phillips combined to pitch two scoreless innings but the Blue Jays held on to their lead easily to secure a deserving victory.
Toronto’s starter Ricky Romero gave up eight hits and four runs in five solid innings to grab his ninth win of the season. Brand Lincoln, Aaron Loup and Casey Janssen combined to give up just one run in four solid innings to ensure Blue Jays reach home safely.
"Very hard to sweep a doubleheader in the major leagues," Baltimore manager Buck Showalter said. "It wasn't from a lack of effort. That's why when you get a rainout, you try to play because you know the challenge ahead of you somewhere down the line. The
Blue Jays have a lot of pride."
"It's pretty impressive the atmosphere they have here," Arencibia said. "It's a lot of fun to play in that kind of atmosphere."
Edwin Encarnacion homered to right in the first inning to put Blue Jays on the board. Moises Sierra and J.P. Arencibia hit two Blue Jays’ for three home-runs to deny Orioles any chance of coming back into the contest.
